Kamikazee: Story of our Journey Together

Actually, I am a bit late for this blog. I said I will be writing this last week before their last concert, December 10, 2015. Yes they had already their so-called "last concert"! Sad.

What makes me more sad is I haven't got the chance to attend the said concert. I can't because of work. Eventhough, it's heartbreaking, I just decided to share how I've been supported them for 3 years in their 15 years in music industry. Maybe I was not physically there on their last concert, at least I've got a way to still support them and express my gratitude. By writing this blog....

Kamikazee: Filipino OPM Band

Kamikazee. At first, I am not a fan of them actually I used to hate them. They are a band where they keep on screaming! I was like, "what's the point of the song?" "where's the tune?" I really didn't get it at all. It is embarassing to admit but yes I was not fan of OPM songs back time. Well, except for PNE (Parokya Ni Edgar) songs.

I knew some of their songs like NARDA and First Day High. It's just because they were used as themed songs. I am really not a fan. Until 2012, I met him.

Note: If you will realize, I met and idolized someone because of a man. But, I still consider myself not a bandwagon. Cos it's my choice whether I will like them or not. It's my choice not to support them. Definitely, it's my choice.

Him. Louis. My current boyfriend.

He is the one who brought me closer to OPM bands, especially Kamikazee. He really like them so much, that when you check his phone's playlist, you will see more of Kamikazee's songs. He seems like he is addicted to them.

During our dating period (of course we got those things), we exchanged our phones. It's just so. Then of course I don't have a choice that time and if I want to put music on my ears, I don't have a choice but to listen on his music genre. At first, I cannot take it. I cannot really take it. But as day goes by, I understand and learn to love those type of songs.

Kamikazee is not just about screaming. They made songs pure of love and hidden messages. They are connecting each and everyone of us. They compose it with wonderful meaning that the listeners would be possibly support them till the end. And I am one of those. Interesting right? Head on.

Until I attended my first ever gig with Kamikazee, dated October 17, 2012. It was held in SM Lipa. From Laguna to Lipa, in the midst of the heavy rain, Louis and I still attended the gig. It was just a small concert but it was very important for me. It was fun! I can hear all the people watching and happily screaming and tagging along the song. I even jumped with them. It was like a party! Rock party! I don't know that they were really that great and they proved me right, they were beastly one of the icons!

Left to Right: Jay Contreras (Vocalist); Jomal Linao (Lead Guitarist); Led Tuyay (Bassist)

Louis with the best and funniest vocalist ever, Jay Contreras!

The best Lead Guitarist I've ever met!

I even remembered during the CD signing, Louis asked his idol, Jomal Linao for a souvenir pick. Jomal quickly responded, "Ay sorry wala na dito nasa sasakyan na ung mga lalagyan namen ng gamit. Next time pre approach mo lang ako!" How humble he is! Despite of their fame, nevertheless, they happily and humbly communicate with their fans. That's a true artist!

After the event, I told myself this wouldn't be the last! This would be just the start of my Kamikazee journey.

Then October 26, 2012 arrived. We bought some tickets for Tanduay Rhum Rockfest Year VI. It was the first and the biggest concert I have attended for Kamikazee. Louis, Royce, Adrian and I attended the said concert. It was memorable. (1) First big concert with Kamikazee and (2) the day Louis and I were officially couple (actually it was Oct 27 when I said "YES" cos the concert lasts until 2am). Kamikazee was the second to the last band to perform.

We were on the VIP area, in front of the stage is the PRESS area, then VIP then GEN AD. Even we were just on the VIP it was still fun. The bands were really great; noting the KAMIKAZEE. It's just too bad that I lost my photo's copies in my laptop, still finding for some other backups.

After the rockfest, my eagerness to see Kamikazee live is getting extreme. Hence, I even checked every single gig they will have, even if it is Manila.

We even attended their gigs in 19east in Sucat. I think it was way back 2013. It was better than the previous gigs I have watched because it was a private event. It's just a bit expensive. Since it's a bar, we have to pay for the entrance and our foods. The night was great! Woa I keep on saying great, what I can do? It's really great!

Note: Again, the photos I cannot find. Once I find copies, I will upload here.

The whole early half of 2013, they were out of the country, so we didn't have the chance to attend their gigs.

Then Tanduay Rhum Rockfest 2013 arrived! It's sad to say that this was the last Tanduay Fest. I dont know why they stopped, I dont know. Since this would be the last tanduay, I made it sure that we will have the best.

I bought the Press Sponsor Ticket. It is not available for public purchase but someone make money from it, so tadah! I got the tickets. It's a bit disappointed that this time we're only 2 (Louis and me). Actually, we have to attend not just to support Kamikazee, but it was also our 1st year anniversary. Quite cool? Haha

Again, Kamikazee ruled the night! The amazing stunts from Jay, the cool guitar skills from Jomal, the bombing feel from Bords with a bombing guitar assist from Led and the perfect rhythm from Puto created the night perfect as ever! Kamikazee really won't disappoint their fans. It was great!!

And after that, the last Kamikazee gig I attended was the one in UP Diliman. It was free and a fun way to celebrate valentines. That time, Louis and I don't have money. Who cares? It was Kamikazee. We celebrated Valentines filled with happiness. Nice right? I will not go into details about this since I had made a blog about this last 2014 in my tumblr. If you're interested on what happen on Kamikazee that time just read here.

Kamikazee: Valentine's 2014 (If you have time and you're interested just read! :))

And and and and that was the last ... That was the last I've heard them playing and rocking live. Bitter truth. Till early of 2015, there are some posts in Kamikazee page (fb) that they will disband on late 2015. At first, I thought it was a joke. But yeah, it wasn't. I was sad and at the same time happy for them. For their 15 years participation in Filipino music industry they proved theirselves already. It's enough and maybe it's time to focus more on their families. Since 3 of them (Jay, Jomal and Puto) has their own families to begin with. And of course, Bords and Led will support them no matter what.

Maybe the Huling Sayaw concert would be their really last concert since Jay has a problem with his vocal chords. I doubt they will reunite again, maybe they will just have a reunion concert. Well, still Kamikazee will be the same Kamikazee. And for us their supporters, their songs and their band will never fade. Am I right?

"Reverse Clap nga ng pabaligtad!" We will miss you Kamikazee! Cheers!!!
